5 Great Benefits Of Adding Flight Sims To Your Training

Why You Should Use Flight Simulation

Flying has always been something of a risk, which is why pilots have to undergo an extensive amount of training. However, the majority of flight training has been done in airplanes for much of history. This changed in 1927 when the first flight simulator was introduced. This made training to be a pilot significantly easier, as well as much more reliable. Since then, flight simulators have become increasingly realistic and affordable. However, many people may not realize how beneficial they can be to the overall process. There are a considerable number of ways that it can help, with five notable areas.

Better Training

Many people might believe that there’s no substitute for the real thing. With the advances in technology, however, flight simulators have been able to replicate everything that will happen in a cockpit. This allows for a significant amount of training, both for beginners and those who are already trained. The majority of simulators are also customizable so that they can perform the same as different aircraft. As such, they can be a great way to enhance a pilot’s overall training.

Maintain Proficiency

Many pilots will only need to use certain skills under specific conditions, such as emergencies. Naturally, many airlines wouldn’t want to replicate these kinds of incidents as they can be extraordinarily expensive. This means that many pilots mightn’t be able to hone these skills as much as they like. With a flight simulator, however, they’ll be able to continue honing their skills regardless of how often they use them in real life.

Practice ATC Communication

The fundamentals of radio communication can be overwhelming for many potential pilots. This is especially true when coupled with the various other tasks that they’ll need to focus on. While many people will be able to practice ATC communication by themselves, they may not be able to do so in a real-life setting. This is where a flight simulator will be able to help. By using one, pilots in training will be placed in a situation where they’ll be able to communicate extensively over the radio while focusing on other tasks. This can help their radio communication skills drastically.

Improve Navigation Skills

The majority of people will be able to navigate the essentials of North, West, East, and South. Pilots need much more of this, however. When we’re flying, it can often be difficult to navigate, especially if this is a new route or if they’re landing in an unfamiliar airport. Flight simulators can use the likes of Virtual Reality to help pilots ‘fly’ the journey before they get on the plane. As such, they’ll be able to become familiar with the route before they have to take it.

Mitigate Risks

There can be a significant amount of risks involved with flying, and many of these can be exacerbated when someone is learning to fly. However, a flight simulator can allow pilots to bypass this risk. As they won’t be sitting on a plane, there’s no chance that anything will go wrong; should a pilot make a mistake, they’re simply shown how they went wrong.
